Famous for containing some of the last remaining wild chimpanzees in Africa, the Mahale Mountains National Park was gazetted in 1985, covers an area of 1 613 km² and is located about 128 km south of Kigoma town on the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika. The western boundary of the park protects an adjacent 1.6 km wide strip of Lake Tanganyika’s waters. The land in and around Mahale is the traditional homeland of the Watongwe and Waholoholo tribes.

5 Days Mahale Chimpanzee Trekking

At 04h00 pick up from the hotel in Dar es Salaam and transfer to the airport for your scheduled flight to Kigoma. 08h15 Arrive at Kigoma airport. Pick up on your arrival and transfer to Sigunga village where you will take a boat to Mahale mountain national park. Have picnic lunch at Sigunga village before boating to Mahale. The boat will take approximately 3 to 4 hour. Arrival Mahale at evening time, take room, enjoy sun set and swimming over lake Tanganyika. Dinner and overnight at mango Bandas.
After breakfasts. 08h00 start Chimpanzee tracking in the forest. The hikes takes you to the chimp’s habitation areas are accessible and not strenuous, although being in good physical condition will ease the strain of walking through the jungle! Up close, observing the endangered primates is an once-in-a-lifetime experience. Meals and overnight at Mango Bandas.
After breakfast, you go for Chimpanzee tracking. Mahale offers a number of outstanding attractions for visitors, from tracking wild habituated chimpanzees, to mountain climbing. Walking safaris in the beautiful, lowland forest allow close encounters with a vast array of birds and animals, including a group of habituated chimpanzees. The opportunity to track chimps in their natural habitat is Mahale’s foremost tourist attraction. At the evening time you will have time to do swimming and leisure at the beach. After breakfast pick up and transfer to the airport on time for your flight, The fight depart from Kigoma airport at 08:40 and arrives Dar-es-salaam around 10.
